
Kyle Grinnell

Kyle Stewart Grinnell was born in Stanley, ND on February 20, 1980, to Patsy (Finley) Packineau and James Grinnell. He was a member of the Water Buster Clan and a child of the Knife Clan.
As a young child, Kyle attended the Black Lodge Head Start where he loved his teacher, the late Shirley Smith. He attended his early school years at New Town Elementary, Junior High School in Parshall, and returned to New Town for his high school years. While in high school he participated in basketball and competed in taekwondo where he made it to the Final National Championship in Chicago.
Kyle is a graduate of the New Town High School, Class of 1998. The day after graduation, Kyle left for Portland, OR where he worked various jobs. He moved back to ND in 2008 and in 2009 was employed with the GTFJC as a C.O. In 2010, Kyle met the love of his life, Thana Smith, and was married in November 2014. They eventually made their home in Bismarck in 2015.
Kyle’s favorite memory was spending time with his grandpa Valentine, Sr. in Mandaree. He was an avid sports fan and his favorite team was the New York Yankees. His favorite player was Derek Jeter and he loved to collect New York Yankee memorabilia. Kyle loved the simple life. He loved his PS5 games, going for drives, and listening to music. He especially loved to joke and tease with everyone he met. In 2018, he surprised his wife with Belle, a border collie and boxer mix. He said “Belle picked him” and so she became their fur baby.
Kyle was called home on February 17, 2022, at St. Alexis Hospital, in Bismarck. Kyle had a contagious smile, liked to tease and laugh, and had the biggest heart. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Thana; His mother, Patsy and Cletus Packineau; Brother Dallas (Ivanda) Grinnell; Sister, Nichole (Hunter) Packineau-Johnson; Aunts, Vernita Finley, Valorie (Damon) Brady, Vel Marie (Tony) Yellow Wolf; Uncles, Valentine (Ann) Finley, Jr., Darryl Finley; Nieces, Ticalyon, Ivee, Simya Grinnell; His fur baby Belle and his many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his Maternal Grandparents, June Wounded Face and Valentine B. Finley, Sr.; Paternal grandparents, Phillameno Young Bird-Grinnell and Benjamin Grinnell; Aunt, Bernadine Grinnell; Cousins, Nicholas Grinnell, Christopher Finley, Matthew Yellow Wolf, Jr.; Close friend, Thomas Bolman; Godsons, Tuff and Wyatt Smith.
Kyle’s wake was held Sunday, February 20, 2022 at Parshall-Lucky Mound Veterans Memorial Hall, Parshall with his funeral on Monday, February 21, 2022, at 10 a.m. at the memorial hall. His final resting palce is at the Wounded Face Family Cemetery, rural Mandaree
