54 Teams Competed in Local Basketball Tournament That Brought Excitement and Thrills to Local Area
By Logan J. Davis
The gyms in Parshall at the Spring Shootout were busy April 9 thru Sunday April 11 with 54 teams competing in what was the biggest independent tournament in the state. The tournament was sponsored by Northeast Segment Fitness and Recreation and it kept Mel Four Bear very busy coordinating the games. Four Bear was pleased with the high number of teams and the quality of all the players from the elementary division to the high school division. It was an exciting time for the young players and the many fans who showed up.
Teams came from all over the state and South Dakota and Montana. The Wood Lake high school team won the championship game over Ranchers 2.0 in a close contest. The high school girl’s division was won by Flight 701 that consisted of players from different schools. Ivy Fox and Jalyn Hall were two Parshall Lady Braves who were members of that winning team. Traditional Fire from St. John placed second in the high school girl’s division and that game came down to the last minute with Flight 701 winning by a three-point margin.
Wood Lake from Fort Totten was successful in the elementary boy’s division winning all of their games in a round-robin bracket.
Girls’ junior high champions were The Pack from Bismarck and the boys version of The Pack of Bismarck won the boys junior high division.
Four Bear was grateful for all the help he received from local volunteers and several Parshall High School students who took care of the score clock and kept books. Miriam Fixico and her family provided some great concessions throughout the tournament.
