The words of praise from MHA Nation tribal leadership came easy last Thursday April 8th, to all the members of the Tribal Business Council because they see a future leader in the young man they were honoring at the TBC monthly meeting. Jesse White listened intently to Tribal Chairman Mark Fox and every Tribal Council member last week speak about the pride and respect they have for him and his accomplishments.

White was sitting at the visitors table next to his aunt, Delores White, who beamed with joy as the tribal leaders bestowed her nephew with a special honoring. Chairman Fox opened the honoring with his congratulations on his many accomplishments in his basketball career for the White Shield Warriors. Chairman Fox stated that the White Shield senior was making the right choices in life and had a great family that supported those choices. Chairman Fox gave accolades to White for being the role model he is for so many of the MHA youth. He also was pleased to hear that White will be attending North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton as a student/athlete. Chairman Fox also noted that while the MHA Nation has an abundance of history in many sports successes, this is the first time that MHA Nation had an athlete named Mr. Basketball for North Dakota.
One of the special moments during the honoring at the TBC meeting was when White was given his Arikara name of ‘Running Wolf’ by his uncle, Matt “Screech” Mason.
White Shield and West Segment Councilman Fred Fox reminded White of his ancestral roots and that he came from a great bloodline of warriors. Each council member could relate to the hard work that is required to reach heights and made their comments about how proud they were and shared their thoughts and encouragement for White to continue his journey and wished him more success in college, both in basketball and academics.
