Home Workouts

By Pearl Mandan- Education Tech

As we enter into the fall season, the temperatures start to fall as well. Home workouts are a great way to get in a good sweat with privacy and convenience, especially when you’re just beginning your workout journey.  Look around your home for a room that will allow enough space for the type of workout you want to do, then set it up how you want. Usually the living room is the best place for workouts.

If you’re starting back into your workout journey after taking some time off, starting with low-impact cardio may be the right option for you. Low-impact cardio is a workout introduction to your body that will give you a good sweat but does not strain your muscles as much. This type of exercise would include chair exercises, fifteen minute cardio exercise, or walking around your block for thirty minutes. Doing these workouts for at least a couple of weeks will help strengthen your body and will allow for an increase your endurance.

There is no need for high dollar equipment to do your workouts at home. Consider using your home furniture for your equipment, such as using your chairs for arm dips or your wall for pushups. If you don’t have any weights at home, you can use soup cans or water bottles. Resistance bands are also a great way to strengthen your muscles and you can buy these on Amazon or any Walmart or Target. You can also pick up a resistance band at our facility, just call ahead and we will get one set up for you.

The Fort Berthold Diabetes Program has four dynamic workout sessions that you can do in the comfort of your home. These videos will be available at any time of the day, the classes will be streamed on either our Facebook Live page “Fort Berthold Diabetes” or Zoom. So don’t sweat it if you missed our live class.

Our health techs have each come up with a workout style that fits many different workout levels and needs. Komiko Garcia will be teaching Chair exercises on Tuesday at noon, Pearl Mandan will be holding Native Exercise classes on Wednesday at noon, Amber Kirk will be teaching Zumba on Thursday at noon and Zach Stewart will be conducting weightlifting classes on Friday at ten am. Joining our classes will not only reduce your stress and help shed some unwanted pounds, but it can be something that all family members can do together. You can also qualify for incentives! Attend four of our classes and receive a water bottle and towel. When you attend to five to eight classes you receive ear buds and a drawstring bag.

These tools will help you develop a healthier lifestyle, and you can incorporate it with your family and friends, by helping your circle stay motivated through encouragement, and by trying new classes. By staying consistent with your workouts and making healthy eating choices, this will give you the results that you’re looking for. We also have our registered dieticians here to help you with healthier eating habits, call our office at (701) 627-7931 and an appointment will be set up for you.
