SERVING HARD AND SOFT ICE CREAM
By Jariah Danks
New Town – On August 10th, a new ice cream shop opened up in New Town named Drivers Sweetz-n-Treatz locally owned by Stacey Driver and her children Chassidy, Robert, and Justin. The Drivers held a soft opening as they waited for the rest of the equipment to be delivered. This is the first Ice Cream Shop in New Town in many years and last year, Stacey noticed New Town did not have an ice cream parlor. Many New Town residents would drive as far as Minot to fulfill their ice cream cravings. She saw a local need and wanted to bring some long-awaited relief to local ice cream lovers and fans.
Historically, New Town had a Tastee Freeze, an ice cream and fast food restaurant, owned by a local family – but it was closed on off-seasons. Unfortunately, after many years of servicing locals, the business closed.
The building still sits on Main Street in New Town. Stacey ultimately, took things into her own hands and started working on opening her ice cream shop. She said she wanted something for her children to work together and have something of their own. “People enjoy it; they enjoy getting their ice cream and enjoying their evening. We have been getting a lot of positive feedback from the people,” said Stacey.
The Drivers Sweetz n Treatz menu also includes burgers, fries, corn dogs, foot longs, nachos, popcorn, as well as favorite sweets, such as; cotton candy, slushies, and mini donuts. The variety of goodies is vast and wide.
Ice cream is soft served or scooped. Also, at the shop is a basic selection of specialties such as; ice cream sandwiches and popsicles. All children enjoy these.

The restaurant is at the New Plaza, located at 945 Eagle Drive, Suite106, in New Town.
After the building was constructed, Driver contacted the owner of the building to see if they had any available leasing space. The space Driver selected was originally going to be used for a Mexican restaurant, but those plans failed, and Drivers were able to utilize the space for their own ice cream shop and restaurant.
Sweetz n Treatz will have a grand opening once all supplies have arrived and will be open for business every day from 11 am till 8 pm. So, COME IN AND ENJOY SOME ICE CREAM and a bite to eat and help support our local businesses that are helping our little town stay alive.
