Kodi Chase, Parshall High School Senior was the winner of the Food Sovereignty
Cultural Foodways Art Contest sponsored Nueta Hidatsa Sahnish College.
Chase was nominated through peoples’ choice by the NHSC faculty and staff out of 15
entrants. In April, Kodi Chase’s art will be printed on t-shirts to represent the upcoming
Traditional Seed and Food Festival at NHSC.
Chase was complimented for the vibrant colors and visuals that evoked a feeling of
sensation with the seeds running through hands. NHSC college community congratulates and
thanks her for the creativity and skills she presented through her art!
The Nueta Hidatsa Sahnish College’s Food Sovereignty program organized a call for
artwork from students of High School age engaging the six segments surrounding themes of
traditional gardening and traditional seeds honoring our four sisters: corn, beans, squash, and
sunflowers.
“Our Mother Earth is the most significant work of art; she has the most range and
vibrancy. I wanted our young people to recognize the art in our environment and to feel
inspired when they think of the beauty of MHA traditional agriculture,” said Tiana DuBois,
Food Sovereignty Coordinator at Nueta Hidatsa Sahnish College.

Parshall High School Senior Kodi Chase is the winning of the Nueta Hidatsa Sahnish College Food Sovereignty Cultural Foodways Art Contest. Her winning artwork was chosen by college faculty, staff and students out of 15 entries.
