During the afternoon of Saturday, March 22, 2025, 40 members of the MHA Nation, as well as
other tribes gathered at the Earth Lodge Village to discuss the upcoming Buffalo Dance Ceremony. Many
of the people gathered offered their support, insight, and attention to reintroducing the Ceremony to
this area. Tentatively it will be held at Medicine Butte, in the Mandaree area this summer on June 3rd,
4th, and 5th. Ben Goodbird spearheaded this meeting, and helped hold a Buffalo Dance Ceremony
down in the Porcupine District, in Standing Rock last summer. He had this to say: “Some of the Standing
Rock Tribal Members were holding an honoring of the buffalo spirit that was long forgotten by the
native people. It was a dream of Gerald Iron Shield, unfortunately he passed this last year. That is how I
came to spearhead this ceremony. It was important for me to bring this ceremony back home; it will
migrate just like the buffalo did.”
