Frank Anthony Black

Frank Anthony Black, Stands with an Eagle Plume, was born on August 9, 1958 to Eugene Anthony Black and Fern Adele (Danks) Black Greff in Garrison, ND. Frank was a member of the Awaxia Clan and received his Indian name by Delvin Driver Sr. Frank was a proud member of the Three Affiliated Tribes. Frank Black, 62, Minot, died Thursday, May 6, 2021 at a Minot hospital.

Frank attended elementary and high school in Montana, but completed his GED with honors, at the Fort Berthold Community College in New Town. Frank was briefly married to Mary Allen and one son was born from this union, Christopher Anthony Black.

Frank met his life-long companion Charmaine Driver in 1987 and together they had two children, Harold Ray and Deanna Fern. They made their home in New Town until 2018 when they moved to Minot, ND.  Frank was very close to his mother Fern, and he was able to spend a lot of time with her at her home in Garrison, ND. They both enjoyed playing a good game of pinochle and Fern continued to cook Frank his favorite meals that he enjoyed.

Frank held various jobs throughout his life. He was employed as a driller in the oil fields during the Bakken boom, an operator for the TAT roads department, truck driver, mechanic and worked at numerous construction jobs. Frank was a jack of all trades and made many friends throughout his lifetime. Frank liked to listen to Classic Rock and to oldies from the 1960- 70’s. Frank never hesitated in cooking a good meal and he enjoyed watching old western tv shows.

Frank loved the outdoors and enjoyed deer hunting, boating, water skiing, fishing and camping.  For many years Frank camped out during the summer months at Four Bears park. Frank enjoyed the slot machines, blackjack table, and bingo at the Four Bears Casino and won several major prizes, including a trip to Las Vegas.  Unfortunately, Frank had to give up his fun activities due to health concerns.  Frank will be remembered as a courageous man with a kind and generous spirit who will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.

Frank is survived by his companion, Charmaine Driver; son, Christopher Black; daughter, Deanna Fern Black; brother, Jon Black; sister, Mary Black; granddaughters, Maleighla Bad Hawk, Charlotte Bad Hawk, Hannah Black; Grandsons, Weston Bad Hawk, Kingston Black, Gavin Black; nieces, Michelle Black, Jennifer Black, Amber Ghylin; nephews, Randy Black, Jon Black, Jr., Daniel Chase; half-sister Betty Lou Black; sister, Frances Black Tail Deer, and many other relatives too numerous to mention.

Upon his passing, Frank was welcomed into Heaven by his father, Eugene Anthony Black, mother, Fern Adele (Danks) Greff; son, Harold Ray Black; granddaughter, Alice Ann Bad Hawk; grandparents, Clara Hall (Crow) Danks, and Maurice Marvin Danks, Sebastian and Christin Black; and brother, Jimmy Chase.

Funeral: Monday, May 10, 2021 at 11 a.m. at New Town Civic Center ~ New Town, ND

Interment will take place at a later time in Montana
