The grand opening of CARE took place on April 15th 2021 in Mandaree. The event started at 10 am and finished up shortly after 1pm. There were numerous speakers from around the recovery community such as Parshall Resource Center, Sahnish Sober Living Lodge, The Door and Healthy Skins Foundations. Good people, good food and an
awesome new addition to the Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nation sober community. While taking the tour of the newly remodeled building Vivian Lone Fight (Mandaree C.A.R.E Director) had mentioned that right now there is only men’s lodging there, but she is thinking about possibly turning the other unfinished side of the building into a women’s lodging. When the vision is right, everything will fall into place.
CARE is broke up into three separate areas, which have been named in honor of a few loved ones who have passed on. There is “On the Scout” Sober Living Lodge, named after Lyman Young Bird. The son of Ted Lone Fight III, Councilwoman Lone Fight, Donald and the late Merle Young Bird. “Sacred Tobacco” Resource Center named after Dustin Irwin. Son of the late Yazzie Touchine Jr. and the late Stephanie Irwin. “Blue Sky Woman” Outreach named after DeRae Mann. Daughter of the late Donald “Boy” Mann and Vida Bearstail. There is also “Reign in Your Recovery” which is a holistic culture healing approach to recovery. It includes sweats, talking circles and horse therapy.
Hello I’m Kyle Mandan, Program’s Manager for the Mandaree CARE Center. CARE stands for Compassion, Acceptance, Respect and Empowerment. Mandaree CARE is a sober living facility which will offer AA/NA meetings, big book study, men’s talking circle, woman’s support group, traditional spiritual sweat lodges, seasonal horse therapy, and a healing room. We will be working with Red Star Woman. CARE is here to help combat drug and alcohol addiction, Mandaree CARE is not here to belittle anyone or talk down to anyone that is struggling with addiction, we are here to help and support against addiction. I am very honored to be in this position to help our native people that are struggling. I have a law enforcement background and I worked in other Treatment facilities such as red pine treatment center in Fort Duchesne UT & P.R.C. in Parshall ND. Both of my parents are from here. I am very proud to say that I am a Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara native who is knowledgeable of our traditional ways and here to help in any way I can. But on a more personal note, I have struggled with alcohol addiction and I know what it is like to start from rock-bottom. If I can turn it around anybody can. Aho GoWitts Respectfully
