New Town student shines in Broadcasting at MSU
New Town, N.D. — A recent Minot State University graduate from New Town is a step closer to a great career in the communication field.
Mykal Drosdal, an enrolled member of the Three Affiliated Tribes, Mandan Hidatsa Arikara Nation, graduated this spring with a Bachelor’s degree in Broadcasting and Professional Communication with a focus in Public Relations. Drosdal will be pursuing his Master’s degree in the Communications department at North Dakota State University this coming fall.
Drosdal’s experiences at MSU and in the Broadcasting and Professional Communication department have prepared him for his continued education and career path.
“They definitely helped me get a glimpse of what to expect in my career and I don’t think I could’ve gotten that anywhere else,” Drosdal said. “It was that first-hand experience you can only get in our department that really helped me make sure and discover that Broadcasting was for me.”
Drosdal worked for Dr. Monica Mayer, Tribal Council Member, where he got to apply his classroom experience to the real world. He was also a Resident Assistant his junior year in Dakota Hall. He was promoted his senior year as the Residence Hall Director in Cook Hall. He also co-hosted and did the weather for the weekly live broadcasted campus TV show, MSU Inside Out. He was an active member on the MSU campus, KMSU, and the Broadcasting and Professional Communication department.
As a major in Minot State University’s Broadcasting and Professional Communication program, students can specialize in Communication, Public Relations/Advertising, Journalism, Broadcast Production, and its new Social Media option. The department features a full radio and TV station with brand new HD equipment. Additionally, the department partners with local organizations to complete class projects that allow students to build professional experience.
